This entire song cycle was written with a room full of people in mind, feeling everyone as part of it. So, what better than for us all to sit in reflection together and then to sing out of that quietness? The Scandinavian tradition of circling around the tree and singing is present here - the circle of light previously conjured up in In the Winter Night is brought into the room with song. In the same sense, “heaven” is no longer something out there, but is made real in the room by our coming together - and also by our declaring, together, that each of us are indeed “of heaven,” sacred and beloved.
Like the great trees, we are all rooted in the earth, yet touching the skies.
